2016-07-14perf build: Add sdt feature detectionMasami Hiramatsu1-0/+10
This checks whether sys/sdt.h is available or not, which is required for DTRACE_PROBE(). We can disable this feature by passing NO_SDT=1 when building. This flag will be used for SDT test case and further SDT events in perftools. That is not present on some libelf implementations, such as the one used in Alpine Linux: libelf-0.8.13. This ends up disabling the SDT code, that relies on this function. One alternative would be to provide an weak fallback implementation or the open coded variant used by the buildid sysfs notes reading code. 2016-07-12tools: Add copy of perf_event.h to tools/include/linux/Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-0/+1
We shouldn't use headers from the kernel sources directly, instead we should use the system's headers or in cases where that isn't possible, like with perf_event.h, where the introduction of kernel features such as perf_event_attr.{write_backwards,sample_max_stack} and PERF_EVENT_IOC_PAUSE_OUTPUT take some time to become available in /usr/include/linux/perf_event.h we need a copy. Do it and check for source code drift, emitting a warning when changes are detected. 2016-06-07perf unwind: Separate local/remote libunwind configHe Kuang1-3/+17
CONFIG_LIBUNWIND/NO_LIBUNWIND are changed to CONFIG_LOCAL_LIBUNWIND/ NO_LOCAL_LIBUNWIND for retaining local unwind features. The new CONFIG_LIBUNWIND stands for either local or remote or both unwind are supported, and NO_LIBUNWIND means that neither local nor remote unwind is supported. LIBUNWIND_LIBS is eliminated in LDFLAGS if local libunwind is not supported. If both LIBBPF and DWARF are detected, it is possible to create prologue for eBPF programs to help them access kernel data. HAVE_BPF_PROLOGUE and CONFIG_BPF_PROLOGUE are added as flags for this feature. PERF_HAVE_ARCH_REGS_QUERY_REGISTER_OFFSET is introduced in commit 63ab024a5b6f295ca17a293ad81b7c728f49a89a ("perf tools: regs_query_register_offset() infrastructure"), which indicates that an architecture supports converting name of a register to its offset in 'struct pt_regs'. Without this support, BPF_PROLOGUE should be turned off. 2015-10-28perf tools: Make perf depend on libbpfWang Nan1-1/+18
By adding libbpf into perf's Makefile, this patch enables perf to build libbpf if libelf is found and neither NO_LIBELF nor NO_LIBBPF is set. The newly introduced code is similar to how libapi and libtraceevent are wired into Makefile.perf. MANIFEST is also updated for 'make perf-*-src-pkg'. Append make_no_libbpf to tools/perf/tests/make. The 'bpf' feature check is appended into default FEATURE_TESTS and FEATURE_DISPLAY, so perf will check the API version of bpf in /path/to/kernel/include/uapi/linux/bpf.h. Which should not fail except when we are trying to port this code to an old kernel. Error messages are also updated to notify users about the lack of BPF support in 'perf record' if libelf is missing or the BPF API check failed. tools/lib/bpf is added to TAG_FOLDERS to allow us to navigate libbpf files when working on perf using tools/perf/tags. regs_query_register_offset() is a helper function which converts register name like "%rax" to offset of a register in 'struct pt_regs', which is required by BPF prologue generator. PERF_HAVE_ARCH_REGS_QUERY_REGISTER_OFFSET indicates an architecture supports converting name of a register to its offset in 'struct pt_regs'. HAVE_ARCH_REGS_QUERY_REGISTER_OFFSET is introduced as the corresponding CFLAGS of PERF_HAVE_ARCH_REGS_QUERY_REGISTER_OFFSET. 2015-08-13perf tools: Support static linking with libdwAndi Kleen1-1/+5
The Fedora 22 version of libdw requires a couple of extra libraries to link. With a dynamic link the dependencies are pulled in automatically, but this doesn't work for static linking. Add the needed libraries explicitely to the feature probe and the Makefile. v2: Explicitly check for static linking and only add the dependencies when -static is set. This is to avoid regressions on Arnaldo's system.
